Sometimes, if you want to use something, you have to create an account or sign up in order to do that thing. Every time I go to a website I look in the upper-right corner, because that’s where the Sign In, Log In, or Create An Account button is. And sure enough, every time, it’s there. Every website has its own monitizing system.

Most of the time you can’t do anything without creating an account. And that’s the worst part about passwords and accounts. And that’s where they get you: They tempt you to sign up and create an account, and sometimes even pay to create an account, but with most websites, it’s free–except SmartDraw and everything.

Sometimes a website will give you a pop-up because you’re not signed in, and sometimes that can be really annoying. And that’s how they get you to sign up for the website. But some websites, to make it even worse, put different LEVELS of accounts on their board. For example, you can get the Pro edition of SmartDraw, but of course, you know, it’s gonna cost more. It’s really bad if there’s a Starter, a Standard, and a Premium edition. Of course, rich people are gonna go for the Premium Edition. But some people might go for the Standard edition, or even the Starter edition. Which is the thing that gets on people’s nerves.

For me, if there’s no free trial, then it’s like POOF. There’s usually a trial for most pricy things, but don’t trust that statement for all the websites that you go and sign up for. The most buggy things about different tiers of paid products is that the farther down you go, the less features there are. And that’s probably what persuades the 25% of people who do purchase the premium edition of a product. A free trial can be a certain length. And hey, never expect it to be a 1-year trial unless it’s SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

On the worst of websites, the levels below the standard level are going to be like “Hey, You wanna upgrade to Premium Edition?” And that’s really how they get you with the whole Buy Now button at the corner of the screen. And if you’re using a trial, there’ll be a big fat “Purchase Now” button everywhere you go. And believe me, some websites only have just a 2-day trial.

THE VERY MOST ANNOYING THING about websites is the fact that you can only activate your license on multiple accounts. With Adobe, you can only activate it on 2 devices, which is like REALLY? But it depends on the product, mostly. Studio One allows you to activate your account FIVE TIMES. And that’s just awesome. Some map suites and GPS systems only allow you to activate your license on ONE device. And that’s just the worst.

There used to be no such trash. And now, there’s (1) Accounts & Passwords (2) Different Tiers (3) 2-day trials (4) Device Activation Limits. Say hello to the world of monitizing.
