Apple has finally moved into the macOS 11 realm of new creation. Big Sur is the first to start that line, dripping with UI changes and new things. The OS looks way more modern than the previous version. For those without a Mac computer that can update to macOS 11, pictures will have to do.
The top bar has been massively redesigned. Yes, it’s still a bar and it still contains the same basic buttons, but the roundness of the buttons! Everything has rounded corners. Now, instead of the hamburger button on the far right that opened up the notification center, there’s a button that opens the Control Center, where you can now manage brightness, sounds, what’s playing, and much more. Of course, the Notification Center is still there, but to open it, you now need to click the Date & Time section of the top bar.
Finder has been adapted to the rest of the operating system, meaning that everything is rounded. The default desktop & lock screen background has been changed, of course, to a colorful wavy lines picture (you can still change this at any time). The corners of the dock are rounded, of course.
Probably the most significant change in the operating system is the sounds. The “you can’t do this currently” sound has changed to a softer blip, rather than the alarming BOMP of the previous operating system. Also, the classic Mac boot-up sound has been brought back, but it can be turned off.
MacOS 11 has been a major changes for all of us, and we are happy to see where Apple will lead us next on this MacOS 11 adventure.
