The ribbon has been changed slightly since Word 2016, and the user interface is different.

Office 365, as you might’ve known, is a paid-for office suite. There are some new updates in Office 365 that Microsoft’s done that you may not know about yet.

There’s a slight logo change in the Office 365 logos and the earlier versions of office. The Office 365 logos are slightly more 2019-ish, which makes sense–because Microsoft started Office 365 in 2019. There’s the usual first letter of the companion app, and next to that is a shade of color, aligned to the theme color of the companion app. Microsoft’s thought up a new less-sophisticated logo here, and I really wish they hadn’t.

Microsoft’s got a whole new thing going with their subscriptions and stuff. With earlier versions of Office, you’d just pay one-time and that would be it. But with Office 365, you have to a monthly or yearly payment, but in short words it means you have to pay forever, until you decide you’ve had enough.

Microsoft’s changed the ribbon, too. I liked the old style of the ribbon, with the tab design and everything, but they had to go ahead and change it. Now, it just looks like a 2019-ish glossy appearance–with the buttons spaced out a little more. And the tabs look weird. They’re like a bar, and it’s a bit too 2019-ish for me.

Microsoft has changed some things that were good the way they were, but it’s too late now. And when you sign up and pay for an Office 365 subscription, it’s going to be on your back the whole time–you’ll never going to get away from paying it, which is really bad, because everything seems to be turning away from one-time purchases, and Microsoft’s following. But, it can sometimes be worth the money, depending on what Office 365 edition you purchased.
