Like product tiers and subscriptions weren’t enough, software companies began to add a “Software License” convention that involved having multiple product keys. Each product key belonged to its own computer, and not only that but some software companies would limit you to a certain number of computer licenses, which can turn out to be completely infuriating.

Most software companies will be stingy and give you 2 or even 1 license to apply to your small amount of computers, but some can also become generous and give you 4, 5, or up to 6 licenses. This is very uncommon, though, so don’t expect your average Microsoft to suddenly release a multi-computer Windows activation key.

Buying all the product keys on earth can drain your money, which ist he main aggravation of the whole Software License scheme, but sometimes a software company may be nice and give you 2 or 3 licenses for a small amount of money. This too is very uncommon, so don’t expect a company to do this. That’s how big corporations get you.

Microsoft is the big mother of Software Licenses, and its children are Adobe, SmartDraw, Lucidchart, and many others. These coordinating companies strengthen the Software Licenses plan, making it all more frustrating to simply purchase a closed-source product.
