Photo of the Surface Laptop

You can see that the surface laptop is extremely slim. That is because there is only 8GB of RAM inside it.

Sometimes you just want more ram because you’re having to do a lot of stuff. But your computer can’t deliver more RAM. Then you’re trapped, and you won’t be able to work on your stuff.

The problem with low levels of RAM is that you can’t have too many resource-impactful windows open, which means if you’re doing a severe development on a small tablet or something, then you won’t be able to do it because you only have 6 or 8GB of RAM or something.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory, meaning you can access this type of memory on your computer at any random time. RAM is very similar to just memory, except you can access RAM all the time.

Microsoft is still putting 8GB of RAM in their laptops, which is absolutely CRAZY. 8GB of RAM is not a lot AT ALL, so if you have a Surface or anything, then you won’t be able to run a whole music production studio with it. It could just barely handle it.

8GB of ram should be in most iPads and some phones by now, and Microsoft is still dogging it with the laptops. Laptops should all have 16GB of ram, and Microsoft should leave 8GB for their smaller products, like not laptops, though.

16GB of RAM is much better. You can run productions no problem with that, but when it comes to having 25 browser tabs open + two DAWs open + a GPS window, then it might start to get hot.

That’s the reason why Microsoft should get off it and start doing a 16GB Laptop thing. But they just won’t–and don’t expect to do that right the next day, because who knows if they’re ever going to do it AT ALL.
