Photo of Windows Settings in Windows 10

You can see that the new-fangled Settings looks very modern.

Control Panel’s getting old now–and Microsoft’s really believing that. In Windows 10, Microsoft moved a whole bunch of features from the Control Panel into settings. And that includes Personalization.

Sometimes you might be looking for something, and you’ll be like–How ’bout I go into the Control Panel? Microsoft doesn’t want their customers to think like that. They want their customers to turn to the new Settings, which is basically just a copy of Control Panel. Control Panel’s from way back in Windows 95, and they’re just about to let it go. Imagine how upset the customers who liked Windows 95 would be.

Soon Microsoft’s just going to dump EVERYTHING from the Control Panel into Settings, because Microsoft wants the new so-called “Settings” to have a variety of features. And I think Microsoft should just leave things the way it is, but it’s too late now–they’ve already began moving stuff. And if one day when Microsoft has moved everything into Settings and has taken away the Control Panel (which will be a very sad day, indeed (for some people, at least)) you’ll be looking for that application that you loved so much–and now it’s gone, thanks to Microsoft.

Settings is brand-new, and Control Panel is OLD, so that’s mostly why Microsoft is moving everything. But the logos in Control Panel are REALLY accurate, and Settings’ logos aren’t as good. So we’ll really miss those old logos…

So, I guess Control Panel might be going away soon, if Microsoft keeps on moving stuff. And when it does go away, Settings will be a powerhouse. Everybody will like it–while Control Panel’s resting in peace.
